Byron Donalds and the Florida governor market

The contract that puts Byron Donalds on this site is the Florida governor market, and the two venues that list it write it two ways. Kalshi's GOVPARTYFL-26 pair pays on a party: its Republican contract resolves Yes if a representative of the Republican party is inaugurated as governor of Florida pursuant to the 2026 election, and the Democratic contract runs on the same test. Donalds's name appears there only as the label on the Republican side. Polymarket's market resolves on the winner of the election itself and lists him by name as the Republican nominee.

Both have now settled. Kalshi finalized the Republican contract Yes at 9:17 p.m. Eastern on November 3, 2026, under the clause that lets it settle early once media organizations agree on a projection, and Polymarket resolved its market to Donalds shortly after midnight on November 4. The governor market page carries the closing prices and how the race was priced on the way in.

Current office and record

Donalds is a Republican and has represented Florida's 19th congressional district in the U.S. House since January 3, 2021. The Clerk of the House member list published November 3, 2026 names him for the district, with his most recent election on November 5, 2024 and his swearing-in for the current Congress on January 3, 2025, and his official House website presents him as the congressman for District 19. Before Congress he served in the Florida House of Representatives from November 8, 2016 to November 3, 2020.

He reached the governor's race through the Republican primary of August 18, 2026, which the Division of Elections' official returns show him winning with 811,131 votes, ahead of Jay Collins with 427,014. In November he ran on a joint ticket with Bryan Avila for lieutenant governor, as the Florida Constitution requires of every general-election pairing.

What has moved the market

Three dated events carry the governor contract from a field to a settled pair. The first was the August 18 primary, which made Donalds the Republican nominee and set up a general election against Democrat David Jolly.

The second was election night. NPR reported at 9:10 p.m. Eastern on November 3, 2026 that Donalds had beaten Jolly according to a race call by the Associated Press, and Kalshi's settlement followed within minutes.

The third is the count itself. The Division of Elections' unofficial results, read at 12:26 p.m. Eastern on November 5, 2026, gave the Donalds and Avila ticket 4,132,334 votes to 4,024,639 for Jolly and Gwen Graham, a lead of 107,695 votes out of 8,261,740 cast. That lead is well outside the margin that orders an automatic recount under section 102.141 of the Florida Statutes. How the finish compared with the final polls is set out in the election-night story.

What happens next

The result stays unofficial until the state certifies it. Under the Division of Elections' 2026 results reporting timeline, counties file unofficial returns by noon on November 7, county official returns are due by noon on November 16, and the Elections Canvassing Commission certifies the official returns by 8 a.m. on November 17, 2026. Article IV, Section 5 of the Florida Constitution starts the new governor's four-year term on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in January, which is January 5, 2027. Kalshi's rule was written on that inauguration, and it settled early on the projection instead. Florida's other statewide race is on Ashley Moody's page, and every Floridian with a page sits in the people index.
