Jacksonville takes a two-game AFC South lead to Wembley, and the market rates 1-4 Houston as the threat

Kalshi had the 4-1 Jaguars at 75% to win the AFC South on October 16, 2026 and Polymarket had the 1-4 Texans second at 14%, which means the market trusts Houston's close losses more than its record.

Jaguars vs Texans at Wembley is the AFC South's first division game of the season for Jacksonville, and it arrives with the standings lopsided. The Jaguars are 4-1 and host the 1-4 Houston Texans at Wembley Stadium in London, England, on Sunday, October 18, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. Eastern time, per ESPN's schedule. Jacksonville is three games clear of Houston and two clear of the 2-3 Indianapolis Colts with twelve games left.

The division market prices that lead heavily but not completely. On the evening of October 16, 2026, Kalshi had the Jaguars at 75% to win the AFC South and Polymarket had them at 77%, so Kalshi's was the best price on Jacksonville. Polymarket had the Texans second at 14%, against Kalshi's 16%, and Kalshi had the Colts at 11%. The order is the point: the market rates a 1-4 team, not the 2-3 team ahead of it, as the club most likely to catch Jacksonville, which means it is reading Houston's results as better than its record.

How Jacksonville built the lead

The Jaguars' five games have produced a 123-70 points margin, the widest in the division by a distance, per ESPN's standings. They opened with a 34-10 win over Cleveland at EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville, lost 20-13 at Denver, beat New England 35-6 at home, won 22-17 at Cincinnati and then beat the Philadelphia Eagles 19-17 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London on October 11. That last game was the first of the two Jaguars home games scheduled in London this season, and it ended on a 57-yard Cam Little field goal with no time left, after the Eagles had taken a 17-16 lead on a 48-yarder with eight seconds remaining. Trevor Lawrence threw for 331 yards and two touchdowns, both to Parker Washington, who caught six passes for 124 yards, according to ESPN's box score.

So the team that walks into Wembley has won three straight and has not lost since September 20. It has also not played a division opponent. Every one of its four wins came against teams outside the AFC South, and the six division games, which decide tiebreakers, are all still ahead: Houston on October 18 at Wembley, Indianapolis at EverBank Stadium on November 1, Tennessee away on November 15 and at home on November 29, Houston away on December 20, and Indianapolis away on the regular season's final weekend, which ESPN lists for January 10, 2027.

Why the market rates Houston over Indianapolis

The Texans' 1-4 record hides how close their games have been. Houston lost 36-31 to Buffalo, 20-6 to Cincinnati, 19-17 at Indianapolis and 34-30 to Dallas before beating Tennessee 26-3 on October 11. Three of the four losses were by five points or fewer, and the team has been outscored by only two points, 110 to 112. Indianapolis is 2-3 and owns the head-to-head win over Houston, but it has been outscored 124 to 138, and its most recent game was a 34-22 loss at Pittsburgh.

That is the reasoning a 14% Texans price on Polymarket implies: a team whose points margin says it is close to even, with four of its six division games still to play, has a better path than a team whose record is a game better and whose margin is worse. The Colts at 11% on Kalshi is the market saying their head start is the smaller asset. Neither price says much on its own; together they say the AFC South race the market sees is Jacksonville against Houston, and Sunday is the first meeting.

Kalshi's contract settles on whichever team the league recognizes as the AFC South champion, so the price is about the division title alone, not a playoff berth.

A second straight game in London

Sunday is also the Jaguars' second consecutive game at a London stadium and the second of their two designated home games there this season, after Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on October 11. The ESPN schedule then lists no Jaguars game for the weekend of October 25, so Jacksonville goes into its bye week after Wembley and next plays at EverBank Stadium on November 1. A team coming off two London games and then a week without one reaches its November division home game with time to recover, which matters more for a division leader trying to hold a margin than for a team chasing one. Houston, by contrast, plays the Giants at home the week after London, per its own schedule.

What Sunday changes

A Jaguars win leaves Jacksonville 5-1 and Houston 1-5, four games apart with eleven to play, with the first head-to-head result in Jacksonville's column. For a team priced at 75% that is the result the price already leans toward, and it would push the Texans' path from difficult to narrow. A Houston win makes it 4-2 against 2-4, two games apart, with the teams' second meeting in Houston on December 20 still to come. That is the outcome the 14% price is really pricing: one result that turns a three-game gap over Houston into a two-game race.

The same Sunday matters for the third team. Indianapolis hosts winless Tennessee at Lucas Oil Stadium on October 18. A Colts win and a Texans win together would leave three teams within two games of each other and cut Jacksonville's lead over Indianapolis to one game.

The case against the market's read

The strongest case against this read is that it gives Houston too much credit for losing well. A points margin of minus two over five games is a thin sample, the 26-3 win over a winless Tennessee team accounts for most of it, and a team that lost four of its first five needs to win most of its remaining twelve to catch a club that has won four of five. On that view the Colts, a game better and already 1-0 in the division, are the more likely challenger and the market has the order wrong.

There is also a case that 75% is too low. Jacksonville has the division's best record and its widest points margin, it beat the Eagles in London a week ago, and all six of its division games are against teams that had losing records after five weeks. A two-game lead over the nearest club, and three over the club the market rates second, with twelve games left leaves the chasing teams little room, which is why a quarter of the probability sitting outside Jacksonville can look generous.

What would change the read

Catalysts: the result at Wembley on October 18, 2026; the Colts' home game against Tennessee the same afternoon; and the Jaguars' home game against Indianapolis on November 1, 2026, the next division game for Jacksonville.

Invalidation: this read is wrong if Houston loses at Wembley and the Texans' price stays above the Colts' after Week 6. A 1-5 team priced ahead of a 3-3 team would mean the market is holding to the points margin past the point the standings allow. If the Texans win, a price above 20% on Houston would show the market had been right to rate them second.

The Jaguars' AFC South market page carries the live board and the contract's settlement terms, and the AFC championship market page covers the conference race Jacksonville is also priced in. The next dated beat is kickoff at Wembley, 9:30 a.m. Eastern time on October 18, 2026; the next Jaguars division game after that is November 1 against Indianapolis at EverBank Stadium.
